A Renewable Energy Company Investing for the long-term

Brookfield Renewable Power and the 'Namgis First Nation have formed a partnership called Wa’as Power.

The partnership proposes to construct a 6.6MW hydroelectric power project on Clint Creek in northeastern Vancouver Island. The Clint Creek Hydroelectric Project is located in the Regional District of Mount Waddington, approximately 7 km south of the town of Woss and west of Woss Lake.

The project, currently in the preliminary planning stage, will involve using water from Clint Lake. Water will be drawn into a pipeline (penstock) and conveyed to a powerhouse where it will be used to run turbines attached to generators that, in turn, will produce electricity. Once completed, the project will have enough installed capacity to power approximately 2,500 homes annually.

The partnership has a contract to deliver this power under an existing 20-year Electricity Purchase Agreement with BC Hydro from the 2006 Call for Power.
